We're considering ways to capture and track wind movement. Later on we'll look at ways to harness this energy to power other aspects of the weather station (eg. a mini computer and web cam). Initially we want to see how many rotations our windmill blades turn each day. We think this will help us observe when it gets more or less windy.
One idea is to measure how much string gets spooled out from a spindle attached to the windmill blades.
Another is to have a disk with a hole in in attached to the blades so a material is released when the disk turns.
If these don't work out, we might resort to using a 'cyclometer' but will look to recycle or reuse one from somewhere rather than buying new if we can.
